Chapter 2

The first few steps on Route 29 were okay at first until she reached the ridiculous tall grass. The swaying blades were almost up to her chest and made her feel itchy. Lailah looked around for another way through, but found none.  With a sigh, Lailah pushed through the grass, Ceniza following suit.

"Someone needs to cut this damn grass. Just because no one lives over here, the grass still needs to be cut. I almost got poked in the fucking eye. Ceniza! Are you following me?"Ceniza gave an unhappy squeak in reply, having trouble seeing his master and became tangled up in some grass. Lailah sighed in stopped walking. "Ceniza, where are you?" Lailah ducked into the grass and tried to spot the fire mouse.  "Ceniza! Come on. Stop goofing around. I want to get this over with."

Ceniza could sense his owner's annoyance and gave up wriggling to freedom. He took a deep breath and blew out a little fireball, setting fire to the grass with a small fire ball. Ceniza was free when it instantly set ablaze. Lailah was able to find him because of the faint smoke billowing up. She picked up Ceniza and stared at the little flame. It died after awhile, not creating a wildfire like Lailah hoped.

"We need to make your flame stronger." She murmured and Ceniza cooed in response, snuggling in Lailah's arms. "You little wimp, stop being cute. It's not cute. "   Lailah poked the little things stomach and continued making her way through the grass.

A few steps forward and she ran into her first Pokémon, a Pidgey. She almost stepped on it. What was it doing just hiding in the tall grass? Lailah tried shooing the bird away, but it wouldn't move. In fact, when she tried to go around it, it hopped in her way.

"GET OUT OF MY WAY FUCKING BIRD!" Lailah said kicking at it. It squawked and flew up in front of her, trying to peck her for that offense.

Lailah growled in anger and dropped Ceniza to shield her face. Ceniza didn't like that. He took a deep breath and shot three little fireballs the wild Pidgeys way. It was a direct hit, the bird's feathers was on fire. It flew off in a panic, leaving some singed feathers.

Her glee was cut short when another Pidgey flew in front of Lailah's face, and then another, and then another. These rats with wings wouldn't leave her alone but thankfully she had Ceniza who enjoyed setting the bird's on fire. Lailah's glee returned when she managed to kick a Pidgey out of her way. While setting fire to more birds, Lailah tripped over something and landed on the ground with a hard thud.

"AH! What the hell!" Lailah turned on her back to look at what she tripped over. It was a potion. "Who the hell just leaves a full potion on the ground!?" Lailah picked it up and looked at Ceniza. "Need this? Fine, I'll take it with me." She sighed and stuffed the useful item in her bag. "Let's get out of here."

They finally made it through the tall grass and walked on to Cherrygrove. Another small town, just like New Bark Town. An old man stood at the entrance of the town and greeted Lailah warmly.

"Welcome young trainer, to Cherrygrove. If you follow me, I'll give you the tour of your life."

"I have a rape whistle. My mom can hear it from here."

"Oh ho ho silly girl. I am just here to show new trainers around! It will only take a second my dear."

"Fine. Fine." She sighed. "Ceniza, keep your flame trained on him."

"This is the Poke Center. You can heal your Pokémon for free as much as you like with special machines. They are in every town you will ever visit." He dramatically held out his arms, gesturing to the Poke Center.

"So…how do they stay in business then? There must be expensive machines in there for healing these little monsters. How is it paid for?"

"Err…ummm. Donations? Yes. People love Pokémon so much; they pay for a place like this to exist."

"I don't know. I think it's a mob front and people are too stupid to ask questions. What else you got to show me?" She asked, voice expressing her boredom.

"…Um…well. T-This is the Poke Mart. You can buy all your Pokémon supplies here."

"Poke Mart hmm?" Lailah looked around. "They sell food?"

"Well, no. Just things for Pokémon. Potions and Poke balls."

"Just things for Pokémon hmm?" Lailah asked. "Nothing for humans? No milk? Bread? Chips perhaps? Say, I don't see any stores here, how do you get your food?"

"Uh…Over here is the ocean."

"We are done here. Let's go Ceniza."

"Wait!" The old man dug in his pocket and handed her a map. "This will help you with your adventure!"

Lailah snapped her fingers and Ceniza shot a fireball at the crusty looking document.
"Got a map. Now go in your house and die next to your phone while waiting for your kids to call. Goodbye."

Route 30 had the same annoying tall grass and it was full of those birds. She ran into six more as she worked her way through the grass. She saw a lone house and figured that this must be Mr. Pokémon's house and knocked on the door.

A man opened the door and greeted Lailah with a happy smile. "Ah a visitor! Hello!"

"You Mr. Pokémon?"

"Oh no. People confuse my house for his all the time. His house is up the road."

"Shit." Lailah sighed and stepped back. "Goodbye then."

"Wait!  Did you know Apricorns are used to capture Pokémon?" He asked.

"…I don't care." Lailah rolled her eyes and stepped back again. Why are these morons telling her information she doesn't care about?

"No wait! If you collect Apricorns, you can take it to a guy who can turn them into special Poke balls."

"Or I'll go to the store and buy one."

"Here, here. Take this box! That way you can collect them."

He pushed the box into her hands and went back into his house. Lailah fought the impulse to toss the box in the lake and continued up the road, going through more tall grass and Pidgeys, which she tried to stab. A Weedle stood in Lailah's way as well but she made quick work with of it by smashing its head in with her boot. Cursing the existence of Pidgeys and this tacky tall grass, Lailah finally made it to what she hoped was Mr. Pokémon's house. He had been waiting for her outside his house.

"You must be Lailah. I am Mr. Pokémon. I asked you to come here."

"No shit. What do you want?"

"Oh...uh…Well. I wanted to show Professor Elm this find of the century. Come in. Come in."
Rape whistle at the ready, she followed the weird man into his house. Some old man was sitting inside, but she didn't care. "Well? What is it?"

"It is this! An Egg." Mr. Pokémon walked to a glass case that held the egg and took it out. "It's a Pokémon egg. Isn't it amazing?"

"…I traveled all the way over here, almost got my eyes pecked out by fucking birds…for an egg!? You couldn't snap a picture and send it to him!?" She was beyond angry and Ceniza felt that. It flared its back angrily and growled, or rather squeaked, at Mr. Pokémon.

The old man who was sitting in the room walked between the two to try to calm them down. "Now, now. Please relax. I am sure Elm and Mr. Pokémon is grateful for you making a trip all the way up here."

Lailah, and Ceniza, huffed. "Who the hell calls themselves Mr. Pokémon anyway?"
Oak noticed Lailah's Pokémon and knelt down. "It's is a Cyndaquil? What a rare Pokémon! This came from Elm didn't it? He must see something in you. Hmm. Maybe you can help me out."

"You want me to go across two towns and get an egg for you too?" Lailah said bitterly.

"No, I want you to help me with my research."Oak smiled up at her.

Lailah and Ceniza walked out of the house with the egg in tow. Oak wanted her to go around Johto to capture and collect all the information about Pokémon. He had given her this giant red brick called a Pokedex that she would have to use to gather info on whatever monster she saw. She never said yes or no. She just took the thing and left, wanting to go home to her mother and talk to her about this.

"If I do this stupid thing, I'll be able to travel. I'd be able to do whatever I want when I want. Problem is I'd have to get used to sleeping in a tent. Mmm…what do you think Ceniza?" The Cyndaquil yawned and raised its arms to be carried. Lailah sighed and picked it up. "Lazy ass. Tried from blowing all the fire at those stupid birds? You did such a good job." She smiled and poked its stomach. "Well, we still have to make it back, so get up!"

Ceniza's whines of unhappiness were drowned out by her cell phone ringing. She took it out quickly and saw Elm was calling her. "Lailah! It's a disaster!"

"How did you get my number?"

"It's just terrible! What should I do? It…oh no…Please get back here right now!!" He hung up, leaving Lailah annoyed and confused.

"Come on Ceniza. Let's go see what's going on with the drama queen."
I have never ran into so many goddamn Pidgey's in my life.
